All in all, I'm glad I'm not rich. So, dream on about the good things that incredible financial wealth might bring you.
I know that's a tired phrase, but it is true with this book. The plot is impossible to predict so it is full of surprises and the characters are all very likable.
The start of the book is a pleasurable read, and then once LuAnn wins the lottery the plot speeds up and speeds up some more and then speeds up even more until you spend half the night in bed, trying to finish the book because it is too hard to put down. A horsebarn with farmhands and a few trips to New York City would also be fun.
I even caught myself wondering what I would do if I won a $100M lottery. And just like LuAnn, I might just buy a mansion surrounded by forest in the hills of western Virginia.
But then take warning from the plot in this book that many dark and dangerous things could happen, too. LuAnn would understand.
I read this book over 5 years ago and still hold it as one of my top 5 of all time and recommend it to anyone that asks. From the opening line to the end of the book, it is riveting from start to finish.
and what a creative mind. David Baldacci hits another home run with THE WINNER. When you get a minute to stop and think about it, you say, "Where does one person comes up with this stuff." The few small moments of incredulity in the book are easily overlooked by the clever and fast-paced scope of the story.It is a great read.
Baldacci really does know how to produce a good read - and "The Winner" is no exception. Not part of a series (as many of his books are) this one focuses on the winner of a fixed national lottery, the beautiful LuAnn Tyler, young Mum and Southern trailer dweller. With a great baddie in Jackson and excellent peripheral characters such as Charlie, Baldacci once again produces the goods. Enjoy the ride.
Fun journey, great story line, good characters. A great read, along with The Camel Club, and First Family.
